  • CEO at Charm City Cakes

    Charm City Cakes was founded in 2002 by Chef Duff Goldman after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America and working at some of the world's best restaurants, including The French Laundry. The company currently operates two bakeries - one in Baltimore, where the hit Food Network show "Ace of Cakes" was filmed, and one in Los Angeles. The business is known for its creative atmosphere and talented staff of bakers and artists who collaborate on delicious, beautiful and outlandish cakes that push the boundaries of culinary art. The company has made cakes for many high profile events, including a presidential inauguration, Super Bowl, and a host of movie premieres, celebrity parties, and product launches. The company also conducts a licensing business through which it offers branded products in Walmart, Target, Michaels, and most major grocery chains. The full line comprises over 500 SKUs spanning categories such as cake mix, ice cream, bakeware, cake decorating tools, and related products. The brand umbrella also includes Duff's Cakemix, a related DIY cake decorating studio located adjacent to the LA Charm City Cakes location on Melrose Ave. We are focused on growing and evolving our existing businesses, incubating new ones, and exploring new opportunities with people and companies who share our passion and are fun to work with.

  • SVP Business Development at Freight Shuttle International

    Developed at the Texas Transportation Institute (an affiliate of Texas A&M University), the Freight Shuttle is designed to move truck trailers or containers on a privately-financed, electric-powered guideway (similar to a monorail) built in existing rights-of-way (such as a highway median). It is a cleaner, more efficient alternative to trucks in highly congested corridors. The Freight Shuttle will replace thousands of truck trips per day in key, high-volume segments of the transportation network such as from ports to distribution centers, across international borders, or between major markets. The concept presents a viable solution to a severely underfunded and dilapidated national transportation network. FSI has the exclusive right to sub-license the Freight Shuttle technology. The company has completed several rounds of financing, commenced prototype development, and originated multiple project opportunities. Responsible for cultivating new projects, strategic partnerships, and equity investments.

    Development services engagement for pension fund client on a ground-up development project known as Museum Tower, a 42-story, $200MM luxury condominium building in the downtown Dallas Arts District. Scope covered all facets of development, including financing, design, planning, permitting, construction, public relations, marketing, and sales.

    Director of Finance and Planning for 2,900 acre high-end residential / resort development project in Napa Valley. Managed relationship with senior lender, sourced new financing options, implemented defensive permitting strategy, and created marketing plan for historic resort, including golf course ranked 4th nationally by Golf World Magazine.

    Evaluated opportunities to partner with publicly-traded homebuilders on residential land acquisition and development deals in $10-$50MM range resulting in over 30 acquisitions totaling >$400MM.
